I think that we as Christians have a diverse array of views toward Halloween. It's wild how much tension these views can create. I know Christians who are hugely against celebration of this holiday due to its origins, and I know people who follow Christ who totally enjoy celebrating Halloween. I don't think either viewpoint is necessarily wrong. I think it's up to a child's parental units as to which way they want to go with things. I personally think it's perfectly fine to celebrate it, everything in moderation. Here are some guidelines I would give to parents who choose to let their kids Halloween it up!
- Go trick-or-treating with your kids. Maybe even dress up too! It would rock, and it would bring out the kiddo in you!
- Act as a crossing guard when your little ones cross streets.
- Go to houses and neighborhoods you know well
- Check candy BEFORE it's consumed, and AFTER consumption, invite your kiddos to a MANDATORY toothbrush party!
- Don't let your kiddo eat all his or her candy at once. Set limits... make it last a long time!
- If your kids are followers of Christ, encourage them to share Jesus with the candy-givers!
